LEADERSHIP: CHURCH VS THE CORPORATE WORLD

Those who know me well know that I am one of those nerds who actually read leadership and business books for fun. In the past I have written some stuff on comparing and contrasting leadership in the corporate world verse the church: some similarities yet some major differences. I may eventually post some of those writings, but for now i would like to post an article one of Cornerstone's leaders, Becky Copeland sent me from Christianity Today. It is by Bill Hybles, a pastor of a 20,000 something church. I thought it was done really well, so I decided to post it. You can go directly to the sourse or read it below. A well worth read.

When business people offer free advice, we should say, "It's not that easy."

My friend runs a company with about 3,000 employees. He says he wants to relax after retirement and lead a church. He said, "It doesn't have to be a Willow Creek-sized church. Maybe just 7,000 or 8,000 with some growth potential." I told him that leading a church would ruin his retirement, because the church demands a higher and more complex form of leadership than business does.
